Texas Teacher Drops Meth in Hallway, Arrested on Drug and Child Endangerment Charges

San Antonio, TX– A teacher from the Northside Independent School District has been taken into custody and subsequently released after authorities reported that he left a baggie of methamphetamine in an elementary school corridor earlier this month.

The 38-year-old special education teacher from Mary Hull Elementary School, Daniel Anthony Gonzalez, was arrested on December 6 for felony drug possession and child endangerment, according to jail records.

The school staff discovered a matchbox containing the substance in a hallway and contacted the authorities immediately.

A later examination of the surveillance footage revealed that the matchbox slipped from Gonzalez’s pocket when he reached for the key to unlock a classroom.

Records indicate that Gonzalez entered the classroom without taking the matchbox.

A police officer from NISD looked into the box and discovered a straw, a baggie, and a white crystal substance that looked like Methamphetamine. Further testing confirmed the substance was meth, records show.

“Staff acted quickly to turn in the unidentified item and NISD Police acted swiftly to determine what the item was and its origin,” a NISD spokesperson said via email Tuesday.

Gonzalez was taken into custody by NISD police on school grounds. He was taken into custody at the Bexar County Jail and was released on bond the following day, according to jail records.

NISD officials said Gonzalez was placed on administrative leave the day of his arrest and submitted his resignation, effective Dec. 20.

In 2012, Gonzalez joined NISD as an Instructional Assistant at a different campus within the district. In 2013, he started working as a Special Education teacher at Mary Hull Elementary, according to the spokesperson.
