Not all SSI recipients qualify for the same amount. In fact, only some are eligible for the maximum benefit payments in 2024 or 2025. Currently, the Supplemental Security Income program can give beneficiaries about $698 on average. However, if you do not get any reductions because you have no earnings or resources, it could be up to $967 if you are an individual in 2025.
Married couples who are both on benefits will get up to $1,450 in 2025. However, if you are an essential person, you will only get up to $484 in 2025. The boost after the COLA increase for 2025 will be just 2.5%.
SSI payment amounts depend on your financial situation
Therefore, depending on your financial situation, you may receive a larger or smaller payment from the Federal government within the limits set for 2025. For example, seniors aged 65 or older, get on average $575.
This may be because they most receive Social Security retirement benefits. So, they get reductions and do not qualify for the full amounts. Under-18s get a lot more on average. Actually, they get about $818 as of November 2024.
Thus, they will soon get a little more once the 2025 COLA increase becomes effective. But when will the next Supplemental Security Income payments be issued?
SSI payment before 2024 comes to an end
The Social Security Administration has confirmed that the last payday in 2024 will be the January check for SSI. The date the Agency has set for this payment will be on December 31, 2024.
As a matter of fact, it will be 24 hours before the benefit should have arrived. This is because Social Security never issues payments on Federal Holidays and January 1 is New Year’s Day.
Remember that the SSI program never sends bonuses or extra payments. Although you may receive two payments per month, one is for the following month and it has just been sent ahead of schedule.
