Miami Police lieutenant suspended following arrest for domestic violence; 47-year-old alleged to have assaulted and spat on spouse
A lieutenant from the City of Miami Police has been removed from duty following reports of a violent incident involving his wife, according to investigators.
Footage showed the recently released Miami Police Lt. Thomas Carroll shortly after he secured his bond from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade on Sunday evening.
The 47-year-old chose not to provide any remarks regarding the domestic violence battery charge linked to the incident that occurred on Saturday night.
Carroll, formerly serving as assistant chief of police, has been suspended from his duties following his arrest, as the investigation continues.
As detailed in the arrest report, a call was made to the police by Carroll’s wife at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The document reveals that Carroll’s spouse reported an argument between them, during which he “deliberately spat on the victim 10 times” and subsequently “struck the victim twice in the face.” The individual fled the residence, and it was at that moment she reached out to law enforcement.
Authorities reported that two individuals provided a sworn statement that supported the victim’s narrative.
Carroll was apprehended soon after.
Carroll served as a lieutenant in the police department’s Field Operations Division, a position he maintained since 2003.
He received a $1,000 bond and is anticipated to be released from jail on Sunday.
