In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump shared his excitement over a significant change in Florida’s political landscape. Hillsborough County, one of Florida’s largest counties, has officially flipped to a Republican voter registration majority. The county, which includes major cities like Tampa and St. Petersburg, now has more registered Republicans than Democrats, making it an important victory for the GOP.
Trump was quick to celebrate the shift, calling it another “big win” for Republicans in Florida. According to the latest figures from Hillsborough’s election website, Republicans lead with 301,967 registered voters, just ahead of Democrats, who have 301,337 registered voters. There are also 274,388 voters listed under the “other” category, who do not align with either major party.
This change in Hillsborough County reflects the broader trend of Florida shifting towards the Republican Party in recent years. In the 2024 presidential election, Trump secured 56% of the votes in Florida, while Vice President Kamala Harris received 43%.
Trump also used the opportunity to highlight some important GOP victories in Florida, including the success of two Republican candidates. Jimmy Patronis, who earned the GOP nomination to fill the congressional seat left by Rep. Matt Gaetz, and state Senator Randy Fine, who won the GOP nomination for a special election to fill Rep. Mike Waltz’s seat, both received Trump’s full endorsement.
Trump expressed confidence that both Patronis and Fine would win their respective general elections on April 1, claiming they would do so in a “landslide.” He ended his post with a message of gratitude to Florida voters, saying, “Thank you Florida—Make America Great Again!”
This shift in Hillsborough County is another sign of Florida’s growing Republican influence. With 58 out of 67 counties now under GOP control, Florida continues to be an essential state in U.S. politics. Trump’s message, coupled with his endorsements, shows his continuing influence within the Republican Party, especially in his home state.
