MCHS (San Antonio, TX) – Experts are monitoring the upcoming cold front anticipated to hit Texas. The National Weather Service reports that a powerful cold front is set to reach the Texas Panhandle by Friday afternoon. Meteorologists are particularly worried about the extended period of sub-zero temperatures expected in the region, along with the potential for light snowfall from the weekend into Monday morning.
“We’re looking ahead at a strong arctic front arriving this weekend, bringing prolonged colder air and possibly snow chances. Just how cold we get and just how high snow chances are will need fine tuning through the week, so check back for updates,” the National Weather Service said.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Amarillo have indicated that there is a 20% to 60% chance that high temperatures could drop below 20 degrees this Saturday and Sunday. There are also warnings that wind chills may drop below -10 degrees on Sunday and Monday morning.
In San Antonio, a front is set to move in Saturday evening, bringing a significant drop in temperatures over the weekend. The National Weather Service has indicated that a wintry mix may begin on Monday.
“An arctic cold front will bring much cooler air for Sunday. Lows will drop below freezing over the Hill Country,” the National Weather Service said. “High temperatures Monday will be well below normal in the 30s and 40s.”
Experts indicate that a cold weather advisory may be issued next week. The National Weather Service is closely monitoring the potential for precipitation that may arise from a low-pressure system located near the coast.
“If this develops there is a chance of a mix of rain and freezing rain or sleet. However, the blended solution is still dry and we will follow this guidance for now,” the National Weather Service said.
