Charlottesville, VA–  This weekend will witness the continuation of our string of frigid temperatures. Even though it was dry on Saturday, rain is expected to resume on Sunday.

The Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains may have a wintry mix to begin with. This wintry hazard and possible slick conditions are the first warnings that will be issued on Sunday.

As a result of the high pressure that is located to our north, we will see wind from the northeast, and temperatures will remain below average. The next storm and front that is arriving will bring rain on Sunday, but during the beginning of the storm, it will be chilly enough to bring a wintry mix to the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge.

This mix will primarily consist of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. At this time, it is anticipated that during the middle to late hours of Sunday morning. In these places, a layer of snow or sleet that is less than one inch thick is accompanied by some glazing on surfaces that are significantly elevated.

For the most part, Central Virginia is experiencing a chilly rain. At some point throughout the afternoon, even regions to the west will see a chilly rain occurrence. A day that is wet and unrefined, with highs that stay in the middle to upper 30s. The rain continues throughout Monday morning, and it will become less intense as Tuesday approaches, with the possibility of rain once more. As of right now, there is an expectation of a quarter to nearly half an inch of rain.

Temperatures that are mild for the beginning to the middle of the week, followed by another storm that delivers rain on Thursday and temperatures that are colder for the remainder of the week. In the coming weekend, before Christmas, temperatures are expected to drop.

The following is the forecast:

  • Sunday– A cloudy and chilly Sunday ahead. Over the course of the morning, rain begins to fall across Central Virginia. The Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains are expected to have a wintry combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain by the middle of the morning period. There will be a cold shower in the afternoon, and the highs will be in the middle to upper 30s. Lows remain stable in the 20s and 30s.
  • Monday- The rain ceased in the morning. Mild and mostly cloudy weather. It’s in the low 50s. At lows in the forties.
  • Tuesday–  Mostly overcast, with showers that are milder on Tuesday. The mid-50s to the low 60s for highs. The temperature drops to the middle of the 30s.
  • Wednesday– It is mostly cloudy and moderate on Wednesday. showers begin to form. It’s in the lower 50s. Middle to upper 30s.
  • Thursday- The weather is expected to be cool and mostly cloudy. Rain begins to fall. reaches the mid-40s. In the low 30s.

There is a gradual clearing, and the wind is brisk and chilly. Low to middle 40s for the highs.
