Nearly 5 Feet of Snow Hits New York Amid Widespread Winter Weather Alerts

MCHS– Travel disruptions in the Northeast due to snow and rain are set to persist throughout the week, with approximately 5 million individuals in the Great Lakes and southern Appalachians facing winter weather alerts on Monday morning.

New York has seen significant snowfall during the ongoing winter storm, with some areas accumulating up to 58 inches, while Erie, Pennsylvania, has recorded at least 30 inches.

Snow warnings remain active for Cleveland and Erie, Pennsylvania, as areas downwind of Lake Erie are forecasted to experience snowfall continuing through Wednesday, leaving many individuals still impacted by the winter storm.

Syracuse, New York, and the Michigan peninsulas are currently facing winter storm warnings and advisories.

On Monday, some regions could see snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, potentially reducing visibility and leading to hazardous conditions.

The National Weather Service reports that temperatures in the Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and parts of the Plains are expected to be 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

An Arctic blast swept through northern states on Sunday, creating dangerous conditions across the Great Lakes, the Midwest, and the northern Plains on one of the year’s busiest travel days.

Tallahassee is experiencing temperatures around 33 degrees Fahrenheit, well below the usual seasonal levels. A freeze warning is in effect for 3 million residents in northern Florida and southern Georgia, highlighting the cold wave impacting the Southeast.
