North Charleston, SC– Sixty-seven employees at Boeing facilities in South Carolina are set to lose their jobs soon. The company is cutting jobs in an effort to lower expenses.
Boeing layoffs are scheduled for February 21, as indicated in the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification we received. Sixty-six of the positions will be located in North Charleston, with one coming from Joint Base Charleston.
Job cuts are not just happening in South Carolina. In recent weeks, nearly 5,000 layoffs have been announced across 11 states.
Following nearly two months of labor strikes and $8 billion in losses over the year, the company is seeking funds.
Boeing has announced that the majority of employees who receive layoff notifications will leave the company two months following their notice. Employees who qualify will be provided with severance pay, assistance for career transitions, and subsidized health care benefits for up to three months following their departure from the company. The cuts involve managing attrition and focusing backfills on essential business priorities.
“As we announced in early October, we are adjusting our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities. We are committed to ensuring our teammates have support during this challenging time.” Boeing said in a statement.
The company revealed its plans to broaden its operations in Charleston County on Dec. 12. The company is set to allocate $1 billion for infrastructure improvements at its current location, resulting in the creation of 500 new jobs.
