Milwaukee, WI – Two individuals have been charged with criminal offenses as a result of a police pursuit that took place in Milwaukee and lasted for less than thirty seconds.
It was determined by the prosecution that the driver was Youantis Wright, who was 19 years old, and that the passenger was Demarione Jones, who was 18 years old. Within the context of this case, both men are charged with various offenses.
An officer was on patrol in the vicinity of 51st and Capitol on December 1 at approximately nine o’clock in the evening when he observed a black Chevrolet traveling at an excessive speed. According to a criminal complaint, the officer started following the Chevrolet, which also had “excessive aftermarket window tint,” and at that moment, the headlights and taillights of the Chevrolet stopped working.
After coming to a stop at the intersection of 49th and Congress, the vehicle started to pick up speed.
The prosecutor stated that the officer then activated his squad lights and sirens near the intersection of 50th and Congress in an effort to pull the vehicle over, but the vehicle continued to drive away, reaching speeds of more than 80 miles per hour in the space designated for 25 miles per hour.
The pursuit lasted for approximately 21 seconds and approximately 2,400 feet, as stated in the court files. At the intersection of Sherman and Congress, the situation came to an end when a Chevrolet driven through a stop sign with its lights off and collided with a white Nissan. After colliding with one other, the two vehicles then collided with a black Toyota.
According to the details of the complaint, Wright and Jones started opening their doors as soon as the officer approached the accident scene. Both of them attempted to flee, but they were apprehended in the vicinity. Multiple bags of marijuana, a digital scale, empty plastic bags, and a firearm were discovered during the search of the Chevrolet after it was searched.
A spine fracture was found in the Nissan driver, who was transported to a hospital for treatment.
According to the documents filed with the court, Wright is currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a bond of fifty thousand dollars. In total, he is accused of the following:
- Vehicle operator fleeing/eluding an officer – resulting in great bodily harm.
- Vehicle operator fleeing/eluding an officer – causing damage to property.
- First-degree reckless injury.
- First-degree recklessly endangering safety.
- Hit-and-run – involving great bodily harm.
- Possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent.
- Possession with intent to deliver THC.
- Felony bail jumping (two counts).
- Misdemeanor obstructing an officer.
Based on the documents filed with the court, Jones is currently being detained in custody on a bond of $5,000. Possession of a firearm by a criminal, possession of a firearm with the purpose to supply THC, and misdemeanor obstructing an officer are the charges that have been brought against him.
