Allergies to cow’s milk are frequently seen in young children, but they can also affect adults, showing symptoms that may appear within minutes of milk consumption or even days later.
Symptoms may vary in intensity and can include an itchy sensation in the mouth, tongue, and throat; swelling of the lips or face; a red, itchy rash; a runny nose; sneezing; or digestive issues like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In extreme situations, milk can trigger a serious allergic reaction, potentially causing symptoms such as swelling in the tongue or throat, trouble breathing, dizziness, or even fainting. Anaphylaxis is serious and needs immediate medical help.
In the event of an anaphylactic reaction, it’s crucial to give adrenaline using an EpiPen and immediately contact 911 for emergency assistance.
Numerous individuals experience intolerance to milk and dairy products, as their bodies find it difficult to digest lactose—a sugar found in milk—typically due to insufficient levels of the enzyme lactase.
For individuals with milk intolerance, eating dairy items like buttered vegetables may lead to unpleasant digestive issues, including bloating, stomach pain, gas, and diarrhea.
