The action-packed evening featured some fantastic moments on the court and on the ice, with teams battling hard to claim victory. Here’s a recap of the most exciting games that took place.
Boys Frontier League Basketball: South Jefferson vs. Indian River
In a key match-up in the Frontier League, the South Jefferson Spartans faced off against the Indian River Wolves. The game started off with a strong play from the Spartans. Regan Lawlee grabbed a rebound and scored, putting South Jeff on top 2-0. However, Indian River quickly answered with a three-pointer from Ariel Raymond, giving the Wolves a 3-2 lead.
The game stayed close, and Indian River extended their lead when Fred Haynes Jr. scored a layup off a Spartan turnover. But South Jefferson kept battling back. Bobby Piddock scored after missing his first shot, finishing with 24 points for the Spartans.
In the end, South Jefferson came out on top with a 60-47 victory over Indian River.
Boys Frontier League Basketball: Immaculate Heart Central vs. Sackets Harbor
Meanwhile, in Watertown, Immaculate Heart Central (IHC) played host to Sackets Harbor. The game started with an early lead for the Patriots as Marcus Castine scored the first two points. Jake Peters quickly made a three-pointer for Sackets Harbor, giving them a 5-point advantage.
IHC fought hard, with Spencer Oliva contributing 12 points for the team. But Sackets Harbor’s strong performance, especially by Ethan Tracy and the sharp shooting of players like Peters, was too much for the Cavaliers. Sackets Harbor ended up winning 78-27, dominating the game from start to finish.
Boys NAC Basketball: Potsdam vs. Massena
In a game that had everyone excited, the Potsdam Sandstoners took on the Massena Raiders. Before the game began, the Potsdam community celebrated Ian VanWagner, who became only the 20th boys basketball player in New York state history to score 2,000 points in his career. This was a special moment for VanWagner, his family, and the team.
On the court, Massena took an early lead with Alex Tarbell scoring a floater. However, Potsdam answered back with Brodie Delaney passing to Cash Green for two points, and the game was tied at 2-2. As the game went on, Massena and Potsdam exchanged baskets, with Massena’s Green making key contributions.
Despite a strong effort from Massena, Potsdam pulled away in the second half, winning the game 65-45. Green finished with 17 points, but VanWagner’s leadership and skill helped the Sandstoners secure the win.
Watertown’s Big Win: Cyclones Defeat Carthage
In other exciting basketball news, Watertown’s Jack Adams achieved a personal milestone by scoring his 1,000th career point in a huge game against Carthage. Adams had an incredible performance, scoring 27 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out 11 assists. His all-around performance helped the Cyclones dominate Carthage with an 89-66 victory.
Boys Section 3 Hockey: IHC vs. Rome Free Academy
The Section 3 boys hockey game between Immaculate Heart Central (IHC) and Rome Free Academy (RFA) was a thrilling contest. RFA took the early lead, up 2-0 at one point. However, IHC made a strong comeback in the second period, with Dominic Wisner scoring a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately for IHC, RFA held on to their lead and won the game 2-1, keeping their strong position in the league standings.
