Bronx Welcomes New Affordable Housing Development; 63 Units Available

New York City, NY :- A recently launched site for Affordable Housing Services at 2736 Creston Avenue in The Bronx is set to provide almost 400 deeply affordable homes for New Yorkers currently in shelter, as part of the initiative in 2024. In partnership with The Doe Fund, a not-for-profit human services provider, the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) has developed a structure that offers 63 residential units.

The structure is a key component of the current administration’s initiative to expedite the development of almost 900 highly affordable residences allocated via the AHS pipeline. DSS is actively striving to accelerate the availability of 500 more deeply affordable homes for New Yorkers currently in the shelter system through CityFHEPS vouchers.

The AHS site will be managed by The Doe Fund, which runs the “Ready, Willing, and Able” program aimed at assisting New Yorkers in overcoming homelessness through employment support for individuals involved in the justice system and those facing substance use issues. DSS has completed or initiated AHS locations with a range of not-for-profit organizations, such as Riseboro, the Fortune Society, Community Housing Innovation, VIP Community Services, and Services for the Underserved.

“In a city with a homeless population in the thousands, we must do everything we can to provide safe, stable housing to all New Yorkers. The new Bronx AHS site is part of our groundbreaking work this year to address homelessness, putting over 18,500 households on the path to dignity and self-sufficiency,” said New York State Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar.

“This work included almost 400 new deeply affordable homes and a record number of CityFHEPS voucher users. I am building upon this effort by working with the administration to expedite housing production and provide new resources to serve our unhoused population. Through our determination, we will give all New Yorkers the help and support they need,” she added.
