Los Angeles, CA – A family in Los Angeles, California is heartbroken following the tragic drowning of their five-year-old son in a pool just days before Christmas.
Emergency services responded to the scene at the intersection of Sigman Street and Stimson Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. A deputy from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Jacob Sivley, informed City News Service that the first report was received following a notification about a child who was unresponsive after an incident in a backyard pool.
A nearby news station disclosed that the boy’s mother and sister were present in the house during the event.
A report revealed that the young girl spotted her brother in the swimming pool and promptly informed her mother. Sivley later stated that homicide detectives from the Sheriff’s office were sent to the location, and the investigation is still in progress.
An inquiry has been launched following the tragic incident involving a Florida boy who drowned in a hole contaminated with waste after his stepmother reportedly left her 5-year-old stepson exposed outside their residence. Cheyenne Star Fite, 25, allegedly abandoned Riley Scot Hogeback outside a residence in Osceola County, Florida, as a form of “punishment” for “injuring a chicken” before going to bed.
Tragically, the young boy lost his life after being discovered in a man-made ditch that appeared to be filled with suspected animal waste. Authorities from the Osceola Sheriff’s Office reported that they arrived at the scene following an emergency call around 5:30 pm on October 11 regarding the injured boy, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Law & Crime.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Riley in an unresponsive state, unclothed, and smeared with mud. He was quickly transported to a hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead within an hour as a result of drowning. Fite informed investigators that she had been caring for Riley and his two younger siblings, who are three and five years old. She mentioned that she allowed the kids to “entertain themselves” in the backyard due to the power outage in the house.
Puddles remained scattered throughout the area in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Fite mentioned that she had just turned her back for a brief moment before the unfortunate event occurred. “Cheyenne [Fite] mentioned that while the children were playing, she briefly turned her back for about 5 minutes to fold clothes inside the trailer,” the affidavit noted.
Fite subsequently faced charges of aggravated manslaughter involving a child.
