Azusa, CA – A California family claims that the former boyfriend killed a teen cheerleader just days before Christmas.
The suspect has been apprehended regarding the horrific killing of a 17-year-old high school cheerleader, who was discovered fatally stabbed in California just days prior to Christmas.
The relatives of Angelina Camillia Gonzales assert that her former partner is responsible.
According to a report from local station KABC, Gonzales’ family shared that her former partner collected her from a cheerleading banquet and took her to his residence on December 20.
At approximately 10 p.m. that evening, officers from the Azusa Police Department discovered Gonzales with multiple stab wounds. Authorities reported that she was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared deceased.
According to KABC, the family asserts that one of them managed to trace Gonzales’ cell phone to her ex-boyfriend’s residence.
“When I got there, there was already crime scene tape up and forensics and all kinds of stuff. And I ran up to the officers like, ‘Hey, my daughter’s in there. You know, my daughter is in there. I’m trying to find her. She’s not home.’ And that’s when they told me, sit aside for a minute,” Robert Caraballo, Angelina’s stepfather, told KABC.
Caraballo mentioned that he advised his step-daughter repeatedly to distance herself from her former partner, yet he acknowledged that she possessed a “really big heart and consistently recognized the positive aspects in him.”
Authorities have yet to reveal the identity of the suspect, indicating only that the individual is an 18-year-old acquaintance of the victim and resides in Azusa.
The arraignment for the suspect is set for Tuesday, according to information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
