MCHS- $7.8 Million in New Funding Allocated to Assist Survivors of the Helene and Milton Hurricanes
On Thursday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the allocation of an additional $7.8 million to assist individuals whose residences sustained damage from Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
He asserts that the funds originate from the Florida Disaster Fund and are designated to aid Floridians in the reconstruction process, thereby facilitating a return to normalcy in their lives.
The process of reconstructing and restoring residences affected by the storms would be facilitated by the provision of the compensation.
In the aftermath of the cyclone, the Wellington residence of the Delgado family suffered a collapse, prompting us to conduct a follow-up with them. Subsequent to the calamity, they asserted that they required financial assistance.
Yuri Lopez expresses that the news instills a sense of optimism within her.
“It would mean a lot because it would help us with mostly everything that we lost and to rebuild everything again,” Lopez stated.
Meanwhile, the expenses associated with her new residence are presenting challenges for Jennifer Oro’s 93-year-old mother, who resides in Martin County.
Before the tornado obliterated her residence, she lived in the Spanish Lakes region of St. Lucie County.
“I think the money would hopefully go toward people who need that financial support because they don’t have the family support to help them,” stated Oro. “Any kind of aid will help people like my mother.”
Six individuals lost their lives following the tornado that struck the senior residence where Oro’s mother resided.
“I think some of that money might help with some of the sorrow and devastation as well,” Oro stated.
DeSantis further declared that a sum of $500,000 would be allocated to school district foundations to incentivize teachers and support staff for their contributions during the hurricane, in addition to $300,000 designated for Florida’s first responders.
