As many of you know, Christmas is one of the jolliest and most joyful times of the year. With so many things to do during the Christmas season, it makes it a lot more enjoyable. So many lights to see around, people to see, and so much fun in the air. This is going to be a top-five list of the best places near Madison County to get you in the Christmas spirit!

#1 Christmas at the Goffs

Christmas at the Goffs is a beautiful arrangement of so many different lights. It is located in Canon, Ga. Robbie and Donna Goff are the co-owners of the beautiful light show. Every year they turn their farm into a true Christmas wonderland. They have had this light extravaganza open to the public for 16 years. Goff even stated, “I almost thought about taking a year off and I was almost tempted to do it this year, with the 15 days of rain in a row threw me way behind, but I probably never would.” This just shows his true dedication to the public and never giving up for helping someone have a great night. They are open every Friday and Saturday until Christmas from six until ten. They will have bonfires with smores and hot chocolate all for free even including admission! 

#2 Christmas on Lunsford Farms

Christmas on Lunsford Farms is a true way to kick-off your jolly season with some fun. Lunsford Farms is one of the most magical walk-through Christmas light experiences. Lunsford Farms is open from Nov. 24 until Dec. 25 from six until 10. The popcorn and hot chocolate are free, but they do have a donation box hoping you will bless them with how they blessed you. Some nights if you keep your eye out you may even find Santa or the Grinch. 

#3 Ice Skating at the Classic Center 

What screams the winter season more than going ice skating? Well, you can do just that in Athens. The Classic Center is hosting ice skating until Jan. 8, and then the rink will be moved outdoors to the Foundry Street Pavillion opening Jan. 24 until Feb. 26. Skate sessions are 75 minutes for only 15 dollars a session. Even if you have someone who wants to watch or you just want to go watch is completely free! As well as if you are a little nervous and need some extra support, there are plastic blue seals to give you stability and balance. 

#4 Christmas at the Botanical Gardens

Athens Botanical Gardens is transformed into Winter WonderLights. On select nights from Nov. 23 through Jan. 8, you can go see this beautiful arrangement of lights throughout the already beautiful Botanical Gardens. This winter light show is presented through the University of Georgia office of the President. It is a half-mile accessible trail down Candy Cane Lane. You will venture through a tunnel of multicolored lights, through a cone tree forest, to a fun holiday market. Tickets have to be purchased online for $15 and free for those three or younger. 

#5 Enjoy Family time and Giving and Receiving Gifts

Overall Christmas is the best time to spend time and hangout with friends and family during the year. After all, science proves that spending time with loved ones have many physical and mental health benefits.
