Here at Madison County High School, we have an outstanding basketball team. For this week, we chose to focus on one of our star basketball players, Jay Carruth.

Carruth is a five-foot-eight-inch point guard and sophomore at MCHS.  Chances are, you have probably heard his name mentioned a time or two on the morning announcements.  Carruth is known for his ability to lead on the court and his genuine, outgoing personality. I asked Carruth a few questions today about himself and basketball, and here is what he had to say:

What is something you get out of basketball that people might not expect?

Becoming friends with people from the other teams.

Who inspired you to play?

Originally I started playing because I saw my friends playing and it looked fun, but then I started watching basketball. Also Kyrie Irving was the person to actually make me want to go big with it.

How does playing basketball make you feel?

Relaxed, basketball is my happy place. Whenever I play I just forget about everything that’s going on around me.

How would you describe your relationship with your teammates and coaches?

We’re all real close and believe in each other. We can have our moments though, but we don’t let that faze us.

Would you consider going to college for basketball? If so, do you have any schools in mind you would like to attend?

Yes, some colleges I have in mind are Auburn, Duke, and Tennessee.

What would you tell a younger person who wanted to play basketball?

Work hard and never give up, your time is coming.
